How much does a small business website cost in the UK? (2026)

By ZTech team. Published . Updated .

What do UK web designers actually charge?

Published prices fall into three bands. These are the figures the businesses and guides below show in 2026, so treat them as a guide, not a quote.

What makes a website cost more or less?

  • Number of pages. Each page needs content, design and testing.
  • Custom design or a template. A template is faster and cheaper. Custom design fits your brand and usually costs more.
  • Who writes the words and takes the photos. Copywriting and photography are often extra.
  • Features. Booking, online payments, a shop, a CRM link or a second language add build time.
  • SEO, accessibility and legal pages. Some quotes include them. Others charge separately or leave them out.
  • Speed of delivery. Rush work often costs extra.
  • Who the supplier is. A freelancer, a regional agency and a London studio price very differently.

What does a website cost to run after launch?

The build is a one-off cost. Keeping the site online is not. Budget for three things:

  • Care and maintenance. Updates, security checks, backups and monitoring. See our guide to website care plan costs.
  • Hosting. Some agencies include it in a care plan. Others bill it separately.
  • Domain name. Renewed every year or two. Make sure it is registered in your name.

Ask for all three in writing before you sign, so the first-year cost is not a surprise.

Should I build it myself or hire a professional?

A do-it-yourself builder can work well if you have the time, a simple offer and no need for custom features. You pay a monthly plan and do the design, writing, search setup, accessibility and legal pages yourself.

A professional is worth it when your time is better spent running the business, when the site needs to win enquiries, or when you need integrations, accessibility checks and legal pages done properly. Our comparison of DIY builders, freelancers and agencies sets the options side by side.

Where does ZTech sit?

ZTech is a UK-founded agency with published prices, ex VAT. Our Launch website is £1,195 for up to 5 pages. Our Business 10 website is £2,250 for 10 pages plus 2 landing pages. Our Growth website is £3,750.

That puts Business 10 inside the agency band above, with a fixed price. Care plans, with hosting included, run from £45/month to £195/month. If you prefer to spread the cost, Launch Monthly is £99/month with a 24-month minimum, and you own the site and code after month 24.

Prices exclude VAT where VAT applies. See every price on our pricing page, or work out your own total with the instant quote calculator.

What should I ask before I hire anyone?

  • What is the total price, and is VAT included?
  • How many pages does it cover, and what does an extra page cost?
  • Who writes the content, and who supplies the photos?
  • Will I own the domain, the content and the code?
  • What is included after launch, and for how long?
  • What do hosting, care and domain renewal cost each month or year?
  • How many rounds of changes are included?
  • Are accessibility checks, privacy and cookie pages included?
  • What happens if I leave? Can I take the site with me?
  • What are the payment stages, and is there a refund if I do not like the design?
