Website care plan costs: what maintenance should cost

These are published prices from three providers, checked in October 2026. Prices change, so check each page before you buy.

• US: WP Buffs (opens in a new tab) lists plans from $89 to $359.

All three are WordPress-focused. Plans differ in what they cover, so compare the inclusions, not just the headline price.

Entry tier

• Software and plugin updates, tested before they go live
• Regular backups, stored away from the web server
• Uptime monitoring and security checks
• A small amount of edit time, or a way to request changes

Middle tier

• Everything above, with more edit time
• Speed, SEO and accessibility checks on a schedule
• Monitoring of forms and integrations
• A faster response time

Top tier

• Everything above, with several hours of edits
• Ongoing improvements, such as new pages or tests
• A regular review call
• The fastest response and a clear target for fixing outages

Hosting should either be included or priced clearly alongside.

• No written list of what is included.
• Backups kept only on the same server as the website.
• No response time stated.
• A long contract with no clear way to leave.
• The provider holds your domain or logins and will not hand them over.
• Hosting priced separately and not mentioned until after you sign.
• Vague promises such as "unlimited changes" without limits spelled out.

• Is hosting included, and where is my data stored?
• How often are backups taken, and have you tested restoring one?
• How many hours of edits are included, and what happens to unused time?
• How quickly will you reply, and how quickly will you fix an outage?
• Who owns the domain, the content and the code?
• How do I cancel, and what do I get when I leave?
• What does the monthly report show?

• Business: 2 hours of edits each month, reply next business day, site-down target 2 hours.
• Growth: 5 hours of edits each month, reply same business day, site-down target 1 hour.
